He Who Hunts the Hunters: Sorceress Supreme? by Ferver

submitted by ferver - Oct 2, 2002

This is a story that is the resounding answer to those AR stories where some exceptionally powerful sorcerer/sorceress regresses someone for no reason better than the person acting immature, or having an argument, or even looking at his/her significant other.

In the case of this story, we assume that those with these powers would eventually form a govornment.

When someone abuses their powers it's up to the most powerful spell slingers in the world to make right what others made wrong...

He moved through the streets of the city, the pale moonlight passing over his frame, the eminations of spent magic were strong here, and they were expected to be or he would not have been summoned. His name is Darien Masters, he is a Sorcerer, a powerful one. There is a society of magic practicioners in the world, that is watched over by a council, a sort of safeguard that was set up to make sure that the powers of the arcane were not abused, and the best were trained as hunters, those with extraordinary prowess in the field of spellcrafting.

He still remembered the meeting he had left only 48 hours ago, he was told that a woman was seen leaving the site of an accident where she apparently used magic to regress a pair of teenage girls to infancy for insinuating that the "Old Bat" couldn't drive after she ran a stop sign and accidentally nicked their new convertible. It was a fiasco, 12 eye witnesses saw the magic in use, all of it had been captured on video camera, the police had been called, and it was only due to some fast magic that the incident had been covered up. Darien had been sent here to a suburb in Idaho to apprehend and deal with the sorceress who endangered the veil.

So here he was, lucky for him he was smart enough to cloak his appearance from mortals, people would remember a black haired man and nothing more, certainly useful since he wore an all black tunic and pants, black boots, and a black cloak wherever he went, he even wore black gloves, all of this only seemed to enhance his pale skin, brown eyes, and black hair. He was not normally an imposing figure, only being of average height and build, but physical losses aside his magical ability was nearly unmatched outside of the archmagi who oversaw the council.

Transforming back the two teenagers was his first assignment, something that he had watched with fascination as the infant girls grew, each one reaching the cusp of womanhood in a matter of minutes, the babyfat on their bodies melted away as they approched and entered puberty, their figures began to take shape as their chests blossomed out to fill and tear the infant gowns they were wearing, he watched the spark of knowledge enter their eyes as their mentalities returned to normal, he saw their shock at a strange man looking at their near naked forms. Their first instinct was to scream, he quickly silenced them, and with a simple spell garbed them appropriatly, and again simply rewrote their memories. He then of course had to do so one by one to everyone involved, and destroy the tape that had been recorded, as well as get rid of the police report, the medical report, transport the girls out of the hospital back to their homes, erase all memory from all the doctors and nurses, as well as destroy any of the other photographs that were taken. All of this took 48 hours, and Darien was angry, most angry at this particular sorceress, as all the troublemakers seemed to always decide to break magical law on Friday nights.

Darien found the sorceress easily enough, she was the type to use it for frivolous things, and thus her magical signature was easy enough to track. A house, in the suburbs, 3 blocks from the incident. It was a normal house, and Darien had seen this type of thing before. Most magic users who did things like this weren't well trained, often their magical training was lessons passed down from parent to child, they weren't aware of a council, of the fact that there were those out there much more powerful than themselves who followed a moral descision to regulate the use of magic. Many times the people in question once informed would apologize and submit to incarceration and re-education in a magical training facility, however sometimes the stupid ones would try to overpower the person sent to apprehend them, those people called Hunters.

He approched the front door and gently knocked on it, it was ordinary enough looking, a red door with a copper turn knob, a deadbolt lock, just what you would expect to see, however the wonder of this door wasn't what you could see, there was a powerful warding placed on it, a warding against spirits, a rather out dated spell Darien thought as he shattered the warding and gripped the knob after no answer had come. The Sorceress's name was Janey Thomas, she was 32, and as far as the council knew, a mundane, aparently the council didn't know everything.

"Miss Thomas," he called as he opened the door and stuck his head in to look, "Are you here Miss Thomas?" he asked. There was no responce, he could sense her inside but she still did not answer, she was hiding trying to cover herself with magic, Darien sighed and stepped inside the sanctum casting a simple sealing charm on the door to prevent anyone from leaving by it, another spell he cast similarly magically locked the back door as well. "Miss Thomas there is no need for this," he tried, "if you come out and talk to me this will go alot easier on you, I'm not here to hurt you, and the fact that you are hiding only tells me that you know what you did was wrong."

Darien began walking toward the hallway where he could feel Janey hiding, when a drifting female voice called out, "Go away! I'll do what I want to do! My mother told me about you when she taught me magic!" her voice sounded like a mixture between fear and anger, "You feel that you can tell people what to do! Well it's my power and I will do what I want with it! And why shouldn't I?" her voice sounded like it was on the verge of madness, the desperation in it was evident, Darien had heard all of this before, people were always all to eager to use their powers on people who couldn't fight back, but were far less willing to face someone who could, not to mention someone who was probably alot more powerful. "Miss Thomas, you endangered our entire civilization, if you come out now we can talk about this." Darien tried again, not looking forward to a confrontation with this woman, not after two days of correcting her mistake, and definatly not looking forward to the paperwork that would be forced on him if it came to magical blows. "Go to hell!" came the screamed reply of Janey as he felt a wave of energy pass through him, the spell he recognized, a magical warding spell, designed to turn a door into an impregnible barrier, once again Darien sighed as he approched the door and prepared himself.

Janey huddled in the corner of the room, she knew that this hunter was probably much better trained than she was, she figured that he could break her barrier down, and when he did she would cast the same regression spell that she had on the two girls on him, she smiled, she loved it when someone thought that they could outsmart her. The door exploded then, the flying splinters of wood spraying all over the room, she let fly her spell, and watched as the dust cleared, fully expecting to see a man struggling against encroching infantcy, what she saw was nothing. The doorway was clear, then she felt it, a flicker of power, through the wall, as the wall by the door bulged and a man in a black cloak entered the secured room.

"I wish you had not tried to do that Miss Thomas." he said he raised his hand, jets of bright flaming green launching toward the woman pinning her arms to her sides and holding her against the wall like a force field. "You have been charged by the Council of High Sorcerey with endangering the veil, and practicing your arts where the eyes of mortals could see, how do you plead?" she raised her angry eyes to his and spit in his face, "I'll take that as a yes." he muttered as he wiped the salava from his cheek, "You have also been charged with practicing your arts on unwilling mortals, how do you plead to this charge?" he looked up as she glowered at him, "Yes, I did that, and I'd do it again, it's my power, it's my right to do with it what I see fit." Janey was definatly a hardcase Darien thought to himself, it looked like there would be no way around this. "Miss Thomas you have admitted to breaking two of the sacred laws of the Magical World, furthermore you have attacked a representitive of the Council of High Sorcery, you show no remorse for your actions and as such I am empowered by the Council to make your punishment fit your crime." he nodded, "If it is any consolation Miss Thomas I will make sure you have a good home."

Darien raised his hands as a pinkish aura surrounded the held woman, and she began to grow younger, her blond hair grew finer and her figure firmed itself, he blue eyes cold as ice looked at him with utter hatred, she was attractive, there was no doubt about it, as she approched her high school years Darien couldn't help but note that he had wished he had known her then, she slipped into her 16th year, her shoe, a common tennis shoe fell off of her slimming foot and her clothes no longer filled all the way out, the red shirt now hung slightly loose as it appeared her bra was now a size too large as well. The girl now slipped through to her pre-teens, the jeans she had been wearing fell off of her now boyish rear and fell around her ankles, as did her panties, however her new height and shirt covered everything perfectly enough, her body began to regain it's babyfat as her face took on a look of innocents, innocent save for the look of disgust for him on her face. Within a minute it was all over and a crying baby squirmed in his magical grip, in a few hours her memories would fade. He waved his hand and a diaper and wrapping appeared over the infant, he held her in his arms as he gestured and opened a swirling portal...

Epilogue:

"This child will grow to have enormous magical potential," he said to the council later that day, "I wish to see that she be adopted by a proper practicioner family, so that her powers will be cultivated." he finished as he presented the crying child to a Council aid. "Her former incarnation was spoiled by her mother's selfish attitude toward magic, she was raised by an anarchist, and thus grew to be one, hopefully that can be corrected." Darien drew his cloak about him as he finished his presentation and headed toward the door of the chambers, "We will take your recommendation under advisement Hunter Masters, but we now have another mission for you to undertake..."

(Maybe to be continued in another story, if you all liked it.... hehe)
